I’m thinking
about the real school that I want. Have you ever imagined go to school without
any feel like, “Ah….I’m going to jail. I’m gonna sleep all day.”? Actually I
don’t always feel like that because I love school (sometime no. Take the
positive thing ._.). If we are talking about school that we want, I can guess
what will pop up in most of student nowadays think. No homework, no homework
too much, no rules to not to cheat during test, no wake up in the morning and
blah blah blah.
I want to school
in Totto-chan’s school. Have you ever read book titled “Totto-chan”? If you
haven’t, go read that book. Simple but very motivating and inspiring. There, we
can find a perfect school. Maybe some people will think “NO” because they
basically hate school. But if you see there, we don’t always study in class,
listen to the teacher all day. Start since the first until the last lesson. How
boring is that? Moreover when we don’t like the lesson. In Totto-chan’s school
(called Tomoe Gakuen) they study in railway coach surrounded by trees and look
so close with nature and environment. The wind blows through the window….
Hmmmm. There is no lesson schedule like we always have in school. There, the
students are allowed to start every lesson they want to learn that day. Student
who loves physic will start to boil the eggs or just experimenting with some
substances. While the student who loves language will start to write a story
etc. From those simple and little things, we can take the valuable value : we are able to know where will we go and
what is our talents. Fyi, Tomo Gakuen is like elementary school in my
country. So it’s very good if we try this method, why not? The students will
not be confuse about where will they go after finishing their education, what
will they be etc.
I actually feel
how confuse I am when I cannot decide where will I go when I enter senior high
school. What will I be in the future? What is my talents? What should I do to
develop my talent? I start to think that it’ll be better if our job in the
future is based on our talents. In Tomoe Gakuen the students are taught many
things like to bring food ‘something from mountains’ and ‘somethings from the
ocean’. That means we must eat food which have complete nutrition. ‘something
from mountain’ means vegetables and ‘something from the ocean’ means fish or
any food contains protein. After they eat their lunch in the hall, Sosaku
Kobayashi (headmaster) asked them to stand one by one to talk in front of their
friends while the other making circle to listen to him/her who. We learn two
things here : we must be able to talk to
public & we must respect person who’s talking.
When the students
will go to swim, they take all their clothes off (haha, this is when they’re
still kids. Don’t take it wrong pls). Some of the students there are having
physical defect. The headmaster wants them to do that because it will be
vanishing the difference between them. We are all same. And we accept the
imperfect.
Sometimes, they
go to temple near their school. They walk there and passing meadow and park
which is full of flowers. As they walk, the teachers taught them to keep the
nature. Sometimes they also help the farmer to spread the seeds on the field.
I’m wondering if in Indonesia we try this method too. Maybe there are no more
students who throw trash not on the right place, maybe there are no more
students who’s trying to cheat during exams, maybe there are no more students
who hate school. Make school fun. Make we feel comfortable there. Make we know
what is our talents to support us in the future. That’s my hope. I want to have
school like that. Not listening to our teachers all day long. But we also learn
to keep the nature and to respect another people. That will build your
character. There is no reason why we hate school.
Fyi, Totto-chan
doesn’t like her first school. Her first school is like what we feel everyday.
Learning to the teacher all day and another boring things. She always look out
at the window of her class and do weird things until she finally expelled. Her
mother was confused. She’s trying to find a new school for her daughther, she
entered Totto-chan to Tomoe Gakuen and she feels comfort there. So what’s your
